IADE organises Photography Exhibition with works by final year Photography and Visual Culture students
X'23 is the name of the Photography Exhibition that brings together works by final-year students from IADE's Degree in Photography and Visual Culture, from 10 October to 7 November, at the A Homem Mau Gallery.
A total of 50 photography projects, 11 author books and 4 videos will be on display.
The works of the 22 national and foreign authors, selected from among the students who completed their academic programme in the 2022-2023 academic year, explore the possibilities of creation based on the photographic device, including photographs, photography books and video projects. A stimulating diversity of proposals, languages and discourses is presented, revealing the individual creative processes developed over the course of the training period and the accompaniment of the various teachers.
With a selection of works curated by professors José Luís Neto, Susana Mouzinho and Filipe Figueiredo, this group exhibition assumes the heterogeneity of the works in their themes and construction models, escaping the temptation to submit them to any thematic order. It is therefore a fascinating exercise to (re)understand the intentionality of the proposals and the maturation processes of each of the authors.
In the various proposals, there is a certain tension that materialises in the escape from a natural image and the search for artifice as a way of acquiring meaning, which denotes an awareness of the creative process that goes beyond the real and an ability to explore the possibilities of discourse. Although sometimes marked by a certain innocence, the works on display affirm creative authorial skills and a genuine desire to experiment with new languages, aspects that I welcome in these finalists and young authors, for whom the gallery presentation is a special moment," says the Coordinator of the Degree in Photography and Visual Culture, Filipe Figueiredo.
The authors present are: Ana Madeira, Ana Ramos, Beatriz Marcelino, Bruna Filipa Marques, Catarina Vieira, David Rodrigues, David Shaw, Diogo Torres, Gabriele Rossi, Ilse Iona Meinsma, Inês Pinto, Inês Vieira, João Xenico, Judite Martins, Kelly Palma, Lique Geraedts, Mariana Conceição, Mariana Montenegro, Matilde Sepúlveda, Raquel Pinote, Tomás Domingues and Vasco Coelho.
