The 1st edition of the UNICAST Awards not only recognized emerging talent in the world of podcasts and university audio, but also marked the announcement of a 2nd edition planned for 2025.
Promoted by IADE - the European University's Faculty of Design, Technology and Communication, this event rewarded the best student work in a variety of categories, from interviews and journalistic reports to fictional narratives and entertainment programs.
The UNICAST awards stood out for revealing exceptional audiovisual productions that reflect the creative voices of students from various higher education institutions in the country. The winners were:
- “Memories of my Porto” by the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto, in the Interview/Conversation category.
- “European 112 Day: The other side of the line” from the Faculty of Letters of the University of Porto, in the Journalistic Reportage category.

- “Big Screen”, from the Faculty of Letters of the University of Porto, in the Education / Dissemination / Awareness category.

As well as recognizing work in established categories, the festival, which had RFM as a media partner, included the “RFM Podcast Challenge in 24 Hours”, which tested the participants' ability to create content under pressure. The winning team was “Os Desempregados”, made up of Salvador Ribeiro, Romana Lobato and Ivo Rafael.
The festival not only highlighted the excellence and innovation of Portuguese students, but also strengthened the link between academic education and the creative industries, providing a valuable platform for young talent to shine.
